SEMASS recognized for drinking water quality

ROCHESTER — The Covanta SEMASS waste-to-energy and recycling facility won the MassDEP annual award for drinking water system operations for a second-straight year.
SEMASS competed with a field of 253 other, non-community water supply systems in Massachusetts.
“This DEP recognition is a direct result of our teams commitment in being positive environmental stewards,” Facility Manager Mark Davis said.
Due to SEMASS’ setting at the boundary of three towns — Rochester, Middleboro and Wareham — there is no municipally-supplied water.
“Protecting the precious resource of water is not easy and it takes talent. I am pleased to see the team continues to be recognized by our regulators for their efforts,” Area Asset Manager Mark Van Weelden said.
