Seahorse Seafood to reopen under new name, new management
MARION — Seahorse Seafood in Marion will reopen under new management and with a new name as J. Naughton Seafood.
Owner Josh Naughton appeared in front of the Marion Select Board on Wednesday, July 19 to apply for a common victualler license, allowing him to sell food from the location at 173 Wareham Road.
“I’m going to operate it as it was prior,” said Naughton. “I’ll update it a little bit, putting my touch to it and rebranding it.”
Naughton has worked in the Deli and Seafood department of Roche Bros. Supermarkets for over 27 years, according to his Linkedin profile. Most recently, he has been the director of deli, seafood and specialty cheese for Roche Bros. since 2017.
According to Naughton, the market will sell seafood retail to customers but will not offer dine-in options although he “will steam lobsters for people.”
He said that he may open for wholesale “sometime next year.”
“It’s going to be 90% fresh products [and] some frozen products, specialty cheese, a little bit of specialty charcuterie items,” he said, adding that it will be very similar to how the previous owners ran Seahorse Seafood.
“I’m glad to see it continue,” said Marion Select Board Chair Toby Burr.
“I’m excited to get going,” said Naughton.
Naughton was not immediately available for comment and no opening date has been set.
