Courtland Angus McDonald, 71
Courtland Angus McDonald, age 71, lifelong resident of Marion, MA, passed away on July 20th after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on January 28, 1953, in New Bedford, MA, to Patricia Converse McDonald and W. James McDonald. Court is survived by his wife, Georgia, son Samuel of Marion, daughter Lucy Grasso of Colorado Springs, CO, and brothers Peter McDonald of Fairfield, IA, Derek McDonald, Roger McDonald, of Falmouth, MA, as well as his beloved retriever, Finn.
A licensed 500-ton master mariner, Court was an accomplished sailor and sought-after captain, piloting large private sailing vessels on journeys across the world's oceans. His meticulous attention to detail and his calm professionalism in extreme situations ensured the safety of his crew, and his ability to repair anything from sails to sophisticated marine technology made him a valuable figure at sea.
Court will be remembered by many for his wry, sometimes irreverent, sense of humor and the deep friendships he made the world over. A loving father, husband and loyal friend, Court’s spirit and legacy will forever anchor the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In honoring Court’s life, a memorial service will be held at St. Gabriels Church, 124 Front Street in Marion on Monday, July 29th at 2 pm.
