Find the holiday spirit at upcoming Tri-Town events

Dec 2, 2024

The Tri-Town is a place nearly as busy as the North Pole at this time of year. In coming weeks, there are a plethora of Holiday themed events for all ages taking place in Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester.

Festivities will kick off on Friday, Dec. 6 with the first rendition of a new Rochester Police Department event, a “Christmas Cruiser Illumination Celebration” at 5 p.m. at the Rochester Police Station, 29 Dexter Ln.

The celebration will feature the lighting of a police cruiser, festive music, holiday refreshments and “opportunities to connect with your local heroes and fellow community members,” according to an announcement.

Rochester residents can wake up the next morning and do some holiday shopping at the Rochester women’s club’s annual Christmas wreath sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 37 Marion Rd.

Last year, the club sold out within two hours, so attendees are urged to arrive early. Proceeds help fund club scholarships that go to Rochester students.

Also on Saturday, the First Congregational Church of Rochester invites women to a Christmas tea event from 1 to 4 p.m.

On Monday, Dec. 9, Rochester will host its annual tree lighting at 5 p.m. outside of town hall.

Over in Marion, two town staples highlight the weekend. On Saturday, Dec. 7 the Sippican Women’s Club will open doors of a number of homes in Marion Village for its annual Holiday House Tour, which has been running for over 30 years.

The tour will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check-in at Handy’s Tavern at 152 Front St.

One potential stop on the tour is the First Congregational Church of Marion, where a holiday lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Dec. 8 Santa Claus is coming to town. St. Nick has marked his calendar for Marion’s 30th annual Village Stroll.

The party doesn’t start until Santa Claus shows up via boat at 3 p.m.

The stroll is a chance to hop on Claus’ legendary sleigh for a trip around the village. Bring your appetite for the wide range of treats and snacks that local businesses will serve.

Prior to the stroll, the Marion Police Brotherhood is hosting an annual “pizza with Santa” event at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In Mattapoisett, St. Anthony and St. Rita’s parish will host its annual Christmas by the Sea Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 26 Hammond St.

Seasonal handcrafted gifts, decorations and stocking stuffers will be offered by local vendors, including wooden and leather wares, honey, ornaments and seashell art.

All proceeds will benefit St. Anthony-St. Rita parish initiatives, including providing college book scholarships to local high school seniors.

The Mattapoisett Congregational Church’s holiday fair will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Reynard Hall with baked goods, handmade craft items, handcrafted jewelry and other Christmas decor.

A Christmas tree draped in colorful buoys will be lit up at The Mattapoisett YMCA’s third annual tree lighting on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 5 p.m.

The evening will include food trucks, family-friendly crafts, beer and wine, and desserts. Admission is free.
