ROCHESTER — After a 30-minute standoff with state police officers, a Rochester resident was arrested late on Sunday, Dec. 8 in Eastham.

Rochester police notified Massachusetts State Police around 10 p.m. to be on the lookout for Shawn Smalley, a 35-year-old man who fled his residence in a truck in possession of multiple guns, according to a state police release.

Smalley was next spotted by state police in Dennis, travelling east. Orleans police deployed a tire deflation device that made effective contact with Smalley’s tire, according to the release.

“Although the Toyota continued at a low rate of speed for a short time, it eventually became disabled and stopped again,” read the release. “The operator abandoned the vehicle in the vicinity of Great Pond Road in Eastham and fled on foot.”

Smalley pointed a gun at officers and himself before surrendering.

Charges filed against Smalley by state police include three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police and negligent operation.

The Rochester Police Department did not immediately respond to request for comment on Monday, Dec. 9.
