Old Rochester Cares club sees positive first year
MATTAPOISETT — As the school year comes to an end at Old Rochester Regional High School, the newly established student-led club ORR Cares has had “great success.”
ORR Cares is a club dedicated to fostering a positive and supportive environment for mental health at Old Rochester Regional High School and the school district’s community as a whole.
In the club’s first year, it has established membership and a protocol for leadership selection among the group, sought student input on events with an emphasis on student voice, led community service activities, organized a Green Night fundraiser to bring attention to the importance of mental health, held a craft night in partnership with the Knit or Crochet club and organized a Be Seen in Green day in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.
The club’s goal is to unite community members to build awareness, identify resources, eliminate stigma and promote open communication that encourages students and families to ask for help.
ORR Cares is also being supported by the Emma Whittaker Fund.
