The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office 911 Emergency Communications Center, in collaboration with the Plymouth Fire and Police Departments, has been awarded the “Team/Group of the Year” award at the annual Association of Public-Safety Communication Officials (APCO) International conference in Portland, Maine, Sheriff Joseph D. McDonald has announced.

Dispatchers from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office 911 Emergency Communications Center, which includes residents of Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester, were cited for “outstanding collaboration, dedication, and excellence in public safety communications.’’

“There was a time when 911 dispatchers were characterized as merely call takers. Dispatching is a profession with complex training. 911 dispatchers have mandated training and are highly skilled. Police, Fire, and EMS were your public safety professionals but now it is Police, Fire, EMS, and Communications” said Plymouth Fire Chief Neil Flynn.
