Antone Benjamin Mello Sr., 77

Antone Benjamin Mello Sr., 77 of Ashland, MA passed away on September 27, 2024, after a short illness, with family around him. Antone, known as (Tony) was born on May 2, 1947, in New Bedford, MA. He was son to the late Louise Corey Mello and Peter Vass Mello Sr. He grew up and raised his family in Marion, MA for many years before relocating to Rochester Hills, Michigan in 1989. Tony and his wife Mary recently returned home to Massachusetts.

Tony Mello graduated from Old Rochester Regional High School in 1965. He was a star athlete in both basketball and football. Following high school, Tony joined the military to be an Airman. He rose to Sergeant Antone B. Mello in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as well as Big Springs, Texas.

Tony worked for General Motors Corporation for over 30 years. He was the Superintendent of the Paint Division. He was a loyal and dedicated employee who enjoyed viewing the newest and latest vehicles.

Tony was known for his kind heart and big smile. He was an avid sports fan. He loved the Celtics and followed them for many years. He loved his Cape Verdean culture and its many delicious foods. He enjoyed going to car shows, traveling to Niagara Falls, Canada, birdwatching, and especially watching his grandchildren grow and pursue their goals and dreams. Most of all, Tony enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, Mary Mello of nearly 60 years.

Tony is survived by his wife, Mary of Ashland, MA his children, LeRonda (Cassius)Shearer of Ashland, MA, Monica (Robert) Mello Walker of Braintree, MA, Christopher Mello of Rochester Hills, MI, his sister, Estella Sequeira of Milford, CT, his grandchildren, Michael (Michelle)Waithe, Cassius Shearer Jr., Arianna Mello, Nicole Shearer, Alaina Mello, Gabrielle Mello, and Olivia Mello. He is predeceased by his son, Antone Mello Jr., his siblings, LeRoy Mello, Frances Mello, Peter Mello Jr, Domingo Mello, and Joseph Mello.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 9-10:30am at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Rt 28, Wareham. A funeral Mass will follow at St. Patrick's Church, 82 High St. Wareham at 11am proceeding to the cemetery after.
