Around the world in song and dance at Rochester Memorial School

Jan 25, 2020

ROCHESTER — Fourth grade students at Rochester Memorial School studied up on the songs, percussion and dances from around the world, and took audience members on a trip around the world without ever leaving the school on Jan. 23.

Teachers picked different areas of the world, including Uganda, Russia, Israel, Switzerland, Sweeden, Italy, China and Tahiti and taught their class a song from that area.

"Students had the opportunity to explore music and dance from different parts of the world they studied and had a ton of fun doing so. There is no better way for students to learn than through hands on experiences like these that embed the arts, music and student collaboration," said the school’s Principal Derek Medeiros.

The show was directed by Susan Audette and Nancy Sparklin accompanied the students. Art teacher Joanne Smith provided the decorations for the event.
