Bats, flashlights, shadows at the Mattapoisett Library for October
MATTAPOISETT — The Library will offer a variety of kids’ events throughout October, ranging from shadow puppets to echolocation activities.
On Oct. 4, it will host its monthly Fairy Tale Story Time with a Fairy Godmother in training at 10:30 a.m. This month, the storytime will focus on Cinderella, including a craft about the princess. The event is open to all ages without registration.
On Oct. 10, children of all ages can decorate (and eat) cookies at the library. Registration and information about dietary restrictions are required to join the 3 p.m. decorating session.
A week later, on Oct. 17 at 3:15 p.m., children ages 8 and older can explore positive and negative currents and make a flashlight. Registration is required for this event.
The library welcomes kids to celebrate David Shannon’s birthday on Oct. 19 at 10:30 a.m. There will be activities, crafts, birthday cake, and of course books. All ages are welcome, but registration is required.
On Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. children can learn about bats at a STEAM session at the library. Little ones will use games and activities to explore echolocation. The event, which is recommended for age 5 and up, includes snacks and a craft. Parents should register for the event.
Watch a shadow puppet performance by David Mello at the library on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. His program, “Tales Best told in the Dark,” is recommended for ages 5 and up. No registration needed.
Ongoing story times are Tuesday or Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. For Halloween, the library will have a costume parade on Friday, Oct. 25 and Tuesday, Oct. 29 with small treats. Costumes are encouraged, but not required.
The library hosts a “Read to Breton”, the library dog on every other Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Chess lessons with Coach Jim are on Wednesday nights from 5 to 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoons, 1 to 3 p.m. and our monthly Kids’ Yoga Class will be on October 16 at 1:30 p.m. All of these programs require registration.
