Boot camp, running program available with Mattapoisett Recreation

Mattapoisett Recreation announcing the following spring programs for adults:

Adult Boot Camp
The boot camp will enter its third session with instructor and certified personal trainer Beth Smith beginning April 23 and running until June 8.

The program is for ages 18 and over. Various pieces of equipment and techniques will be introduced to ensure that participants receive a balanced workout designed to improve balance, coordination, and muscular and cardiovascular endurance.

The sessions are Tuesdays from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Early birds can get an extra 15 minutes of core exercise from 5:45 a.m. to 6 a.m.

The cost for one class per week is $84, $154 for twice a week, and $210 for three times a week. Classes are at Old Hammondtown School in Mattapoisett and will be moved outdoors as weather permits.

Runner training program
“From the Couch to the Mattapoisett 5 Miler Training Program” is a new workout series this spring with active local runner and licensed massage therapist Jessica Cavaco. The 12-week program is for adults 18 and over, and runs (literally) from April 8 to June 27. Classes are Monday and Wednesday from 6:15 a.m. to 7 a.m. at a cost of $125 per person. Classes will meet at 76 County Road.

The program is designed for adults who are new to running or have taken time away from running. It is also for those who have never felt comfortable running beyond the 5k races.

The course will include the seven running essentials, common running mistakes, proper gear, importance of hydration, how to train safely and effectively, pre/post warm up stretches, tips for pre-race jitters, and self care. Participants are encouraged to consult their physician before beginning the program.
