Camera roll thanks to Lighthouse Fund
When news happens in grades fourth through eighth student reporters in the Old Rochester Regional district will be there to tell their classmates
District Video Coordinator Deb Stinson earned a $2,490 grant from the Lighthouse Fund to expand the Cub Reporter Program in ORR. Using grant funds, students will learn camera operation, how to conduct on-air interviews and create news stories.
“This project will provide an opportunity for student empowerment, leadership and creativity,” Stinson said. “The production of the stories will allow students to have hands-on experience with new digital technology.”
Student-generated stories will air on the Tri-Town Educational Channel, which is channel 97 for Comcast subscribers and channel 37 for Verizon customers.
Stinson said the program has been in place at the junior high school, but in April she opened it up to Sippican School students. “It’s an opportunity to showcase student work and the vast variety of subjects being taught,” Stinson said.
