Car sinks in Sippican Harbor
MARION — A car sank near the Harbormaster’s office at 1 Island Wharf Road Saturday evening.
The Marion Fire Department responded to a call regarding a submerged vehicle at 6:12 p.m. and successfully removed the car around 8:33 p.m.
The unattended vehicle rolled down the nearby boat ramp and sank into Sippican Harbor.
Fire Chief Brian Jackvony said the owner of the car was uninjured.
Jackvony said he is unsure how the vehicle ended up in the water.
“I don't know if it was in gear. I don't know if it was mechanical failure. I'm not sure of the exact circumstance,” he said.
Jackvony said the car is no longer operable because it was completely submerged underwater.
“I wouldn't imagine that you'd see that car on the road again,” Jackvony said.
First responders worked with Murphy’s Towing to remove the vehicle.
The fire department contacted the Department of Environmental Protection in case the vehicle spilled oil or gasoline into the water, but did not find any traces of either.
