Classic cars cruise into Old Colony

May 2, 2016

The Old Colony senior class held a successful car show on Friday afternoon with everything from vintage cars to a toy car.

Sam Morse, a student in the automotive shop at the vocational school, came up with the idea as a fundraiser for his class.

"Being this school, we've got a lot of people who are close with cars," he said.

Morse hoped to have 30 cars, but got twice that, filling an entire parking lot of the school with all kinds of makes and models. There was a Bel Air with suspension lifts, a sky-high ladder truck, Jeep Cherokees covered in mud, souped up Mustangs and even a kid-sized Camaro.

But Morse said he was most excited about the exotic cars.

"Those are huge in my book," he said.

Car owners were happy to support the students and, of course, to talk cars.

"It's nice to come out and support the kids," said Roger Poineau, who brought his 1965 Corvette Stingray Coupe.

Poineau's Corvette isn't his first classic car.

"I'm seventy years old, I've had a couple," he said. "It's a hobby and you meet nice people."

John Souza brought his 1951 Ford Coupe Deluxe.

"It's all original. Nothing has been changed on it," he said.

When Souza saw the car a year ago he said, "I had to get this."

Like Poineau, he's had a few vintage models, including a '63 Chevy Impala and a '69 Pontiac GTO.

He said this was his first car show of the season.

"I am really impressed," Souza said of the turnout. "I love this stuff."
