With most public beaches off limits to dogs the howl heard around Mattapoisett has long been “where can the dogs run?”

While it’s not a beach or a pet park, Town Administrator Mike Gagne said dogs are allowed to work out some energy at the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s reserve on Acushnet Road, often referred to as “The Bogs.”

“The coalition did say they allow people to bring their dogs there and to run the dogs,” said Gagne.

The property features acres of retired cranberry bogs as well as a trail.

Gagne said the town will put up a station with bags so people can pick up puppy poo. There are already 12 such stations around town. The one at the coalition property will be maintained by the town.

Gagne stressed that people respect the property and pick up after their pets.
