Drama club decks out for trunk-or-treat Halloween event
MATTAPOISETT — Members of the drama club at Old Rochester Regional High School were dressed up in costume Saturday, Oct. 19, but it wasn’t for one of the shows the group will put on this year.
The club held a ‘trunk-or-treat’ in the parking lot in front of Old Rochester, banding together behind cars in themed ensembles to hand out candy.
Club director Brayden Fanti and Julie Tomasso, treasurer of Friends of Old Rochester Drama, manned the entrance to the runway of costumed students and vehicle rears.
In groups, students wore costumes themed to pop culture, with candy stations dedicated to “Jaws,” “Scream” and “The Wizard of Oz,” for example.
“It didn’t take much to get them to get in costume,” Fanti said. “They were pretty excited.”
The Halloween event, with a suggested donation, acted as a club fundraiser, which helps to “keep arts in the school,” according to Fanti.
Fundraisers like the trunk-or-treat “keep the theater company alive,” Fanti said.
“It’s been really fun,” sophomore Gianna Annunziato said.
The money raised at events like the trunk-or-treat goes towards the club’s shows, according to Fanti.
From Nov. 21 to Nov. 24, the Old Rochester drama club will perform “Noises Off,” one of three shows the group will produce in the school year.
Inside the parking lot in front of the high school, there was one car that didn’t appear to have a costumed theme. Set up in between a car themed to “Inside Out 2,” a movie, and one themed to “Bluey,” a television show, a Mattapoisett police officer stood behind the trunk of a department vehicle. Despite no costume, the officer did, of course, have candy.
“It’s nice seeing people from the community,” sophomore Isabel Marujo said.
