Markey, Keating, Minogue among Tri-Town primary winners

Tri-Town Democrats largely supported Edward Markey to be the party’s U.S. senator candidate and Bill Keating for the U.S. representative nomination.
Incumbent Sen. Markey faced current Rep. Moulton in the state primary elections Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Markey has served in the U.S. Senate since July 2013 and will complete his current term at 80 years in January 2027. He was previously a representative for the state’s 5th congressional district briefly in 2013 and for the 7th congressional district from 1975 to 2012.
Moulton has been the U.S. Representative for the state’s 6th congressional district since 2015, and he previously served four tours in Iraq through the Marine Corps.
Markey received about 64% of the votes in Mattapoisett.The 2nd Bristol and Plymouth district also includes Acushnet, Fairhaven, Dartmouth and New Bedford.
In Marion, Markey was the most popular nominee with 59% of votes. The 3rd Bristol and Plymouth district includes Taunton, Berkley, Dighton, Raynham, Rehoboth, Seekonk, Carver, Middleborough and Wareham.
In Rochester, Markey got the majority of votes with 65%. The 1st Bristol and Plymouth district also includes Fall River, Freetown, Lakeville, Somerset, Swansea and Westport.
The nominee who wins across the state will face John Deaton for the state senator seat in the Nov. 3 general election. Deaton ran unopposed on the Republican ballot.
Incumbent state Rep. Keating faced opponent Swallow in the Democratic U.S. representative race.
Keating has served as the U.S. representative for the 9th congressional district since 2013 and for the 10th congressional district from 2011 to 2013. Swallow has never held elected office.
Keatingreceived about74% of the votes in Rochester, 76% in Marion and 65% in Mattapoisett. The 9th congressional district includes Barnstable and Dukes counties, portions of Plymouth and Bristol counties and some other areas.
The Democratic nominee will face Republican Tyler McAllister, a former Mattapoisett Select Board member, in the November general election.
Tri-Town voters largely supported Michael Roger Minogue over Brian Shortsleeves for the Republican governor nomination. Anthony Thomas O’Brien Sr. was more popular amongst Marion and Rochester voters for the Republican Plymouth County Commissioner nomination, while Sandra M. Wright was most popular in Mattapoisett. Korey Michael Welch also ran for the commissioner nomination.
The Republican governor nominee will face incumbent Governor Maura Healey in the November election.
In Marion, about 27% of voters cast ballots. Voter turnout was 15% in Mattapoisett and 28% in Rochester.
A few days before the election, Mattapoisett had 5,742 total registered voters, with 1,060 people registered as Democrat and 660 as Republican. Marion had 883 Democrat and 536 Republican registered voters out of 4,611 total voters. Rochester had 4,807 total registered voters, 598 of whom are Democrat and 646 are Republican.
