Bike and pedestrian path closer to completion
MARION — A shared use path that will make Marion more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly is one step closer to completion.
The Marion Select Board discussed an update on the progress of the project at a Tuesday, Aug. 25 meeting.
MassDOT required three minor road layout changes, including a small curved portion of Spring Street, before the project could move forward.
Final designs will be submitted to MassDOT in February 2027, and construction for the project is slated to begin later next year.
The Marion Shared Use Pathway will connect with the Mattapoisett Rail Trail at Point Road. The path is also part of the South Coast Bikeway, a larger network that runs from Fall River to Cape Cod.
The Marion portion of the path will be about 3.8 miles and increase recreation areas and transportation networks in Marion.
