Elizabeth Taber Library holds end-of-summer ice cream party

MARION — We’ve got the scoop!

The Elizabeth Taber Library held an end-of-summer celebration on Saturday, July 31, complete with ice cream and yard games for kids and families to enjoy.

Children’s Librarian Heather Ripley dished out cups full of delicious vanilla ice cream, donated by Fieldstone Market, to eagerly awaiting kids.

She also invited them to take home a free book from a cart of donated books.

Allison Pina and her daughter Abijah Anderson said they’ve been coming to the library every week to turn in Abijah’s summer reading logs and pick up her prizes — she’s earned three so far this summer — but they came out specifically for the ice cream this time.

Abijah said her favorite book she read this summer was “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Drew Daywalt, because “it’s a really silly one.”

Allison agreed that it was her favorite too and added that the summer reading program had really helped her daughter stay motivated to read.

“She asks me if we can read now,” she said.
