Elks Student of the Month knits community together

Apr 29, 2019

Old Rochester Regional High School faculty and staff helped the Elks of Wareham and the New Bedford Lodge No. 1548 to select Lily Govoni as their Student of the Month.

Teachers describe Govoni as “self-motivated and very talented,” noting that she loves to knit and crochet, and creates patterns for her clothes.

Govoni founded the Knit OR Crochet club this year so that students could provide hats, scarves, and mittens to people in need over the winter. The club donated 70 knitted items in March.

She also wanted to start the club to relieve stress among her fellow students, and in doing so embodied one of the school’s core values, resiliency.

The Elks nominate students who excel in scholarship, citizenship, performing arts, fine arts, hobbies, athletics, church, school and community service, or industry and farming for this award.
