Falling into autumn with the Natural History Museum
MARION — Children experience a colorful autumn day through a Natural History Museum program on Oct. 14.
The museum’s afterschool group learned about why leaves on deciduous trees change colors in the fall.
The group conducted an experiment to draw the colors out of red, yellow, green and brown leaves. They walked around town with a map to identify the trees from the Tree and Park Committee’s guidebook.
“The kids did a great job identifying the trees and even ones that were not mentioned in the book,” the museum said in a press release.
At the end of the activity, the group saw a rainbow while counting London Plane Trees at Island Wharf.
“Many thanks to the Marion Trees and Park Committee for the kind donation of the guides for the kids to press their leaves in and take home,” the museum said.
