The market, located at 806 Mill Street, is currently constructing an addition to expand the store’s inventory.
“Really, it's all due to our customers and wanting to keep growing for them that we're making the investment,” Johnson said.
The addition will house specialty food items including wine, beer, cheese, charcuterie items and more gluten-free and vegan options.
Fieldstone plans on adding a hot soup station, updating the bakery, expanding the organic produce section and widening aisles in the main market area.
Johnson said this building process began five years ago when they bought the property next door. First, they had to tear down the house that resided there, then build a parking lot and expand their septic system.
It has taken a few years for the building plans to be drafted, finalized and approved by the Marion Planning Board, but two months ago, the foundations were finally laid for the addition.
Construction began in November and Johnson hopes the addition will be finished by the end of May. The goal of the addition was to increase space and provide more items customers have been requesting.
Currently, the roof is being finished and soon the refrigeration and electrical wiring will be added in the addition.
Johnson said shoppers will not be hindered by the construction. He thinks there might be a day or two the market will be closed when the addition needs to be connected with the main marketplace which will happen near the end of construction.
“We're all excited to get this thing finally finished and open and see the customers' reactions,” Johnson said. “I think it's going to be very positive."
