First day of school starts off with smiles

Schools in the tri-town welcomed back students on Tuesday. Students will get the chance to ease back into the swing of the school year with two short weeks. Students will get Friday, Sept. 2 and the following Monday, Sept. 5, off for Labor Day.
Old Hammondtown School will host an open house for parents from 5:30 p.m. to 7 on Sept. 7. Center School’s open house is on Sept. 15, and the high school’s open house is from 6:30 p.m. to 9 on Sept. 27.
The first school committee meetings of the year are on Sept. 7 for Marion, Sept. 8 for Rochester and Sept. 12 for Mattapoisett.
