Friends of Old Rochester Music pull out the stops for March concert
MATTAPOISETT — Friends of Old Rochester Music hit the right notes with two concerts —a choral concert held on Wednesday, March 11 and an instrumental concert on Wednesday, March 18.
Students from the Old Rochester Regional School District performed for family and friends to raise money for Friends of Old Rochester Music scholarships.
Old Rochester Regional High School Principal Michael Devoll said that the concert was a reminder of the talent of the students and staff of the district.
"I love being able to see the progression from our youngest musicians to our oldest musicians,” he said. “Providing students with scholarship opportunities is a wonderful way to send off our graduating senior musicians.”
Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Jaime Curley praised the performances.
"Not only do they possess amazing individual talents, but they work so well together in harmony. Bravo to our music teachers for preparing and orchestrating these amazing FORM concerts that we look forward to every year,” Curley said.
The choral concert celebrated the career of Old Rochester Regional Junior High School's chorus director and music teacher, Angie Vaughn. She has spent 27 years in music and has been teaching since 1998 — she will be retiring at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
Old Rochester Regional Junior High School Principal Silas Coellner said Vaughn’s impact will last a long time.
"We thank her for her unwavering commitment, and we all wish her a happy retirement. Nevertheless, Mrs. Vaughn's legacy of music and teaching will always sing on in the hearts of all her students, colleagues and members of the Old Rochester community,” she said.
Although summer is approaching fast, more is still to come from the musicians. "A Night of Jazz" is taking place at Old Rochester Regional High School on Tuesday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. and the Spring Concert is being held on Wednesday May 14 at 6:30 p.m.
