Gateway All-Star teams shine in the summer tournaments
Players on two Gateway Babe Ruth All-Star are champions following wins at the Bourne Battle of the Bridge Tournament.
Lead by Head Coach Joe Lemiuex, the Gateway Babe Ruth 13 year olds baseball team defeated Bourne, Martha's Vineyard and Dartmouth in the championship round to win its first tournament title in many years.
The boys finished as runner ups in the Gateway Regional Tournament that decided the championship team for Cape Cod and the Islands.
On that team were Old Rochester Regional players, Zac Papadakis, Sam Hartley Matteson, Noah Casado and Bob Ross.
The Gateway 15 year olds defeated Acushnet/Fairhaven to win the Bourne Battle at the Bridge Tournament. The boys were runner-ups in the Gateway Regional Tournament.
Playing on that team from the Old Rochester Regional school district were Will Hopkins and Hunter Smith. The team’s Head Coach was Jim Kemlege.
Players from Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester and Wareham may join the Gateway Babe Ruth League. The league’s Fall Ball Program kicks off the 2015 season. Visit www.gatewaybaberuth.com to register.
Players who are 12 to 15 years old may join. Players who are 15 years old on May 1 may sign up. The deadline to register is Sept. 1.
