This week, Harbor Days returns to Mattapoisett for its 30th year, and Don Bamberger says there are a few new things in store this time around.

The event, organized by the Mattapoisett Lions Club, originally began as the Strawberry Festival, eventually turning into a week of events that now include a triathlon, an arts and crafts festival, and lots of opportunities to chow down on local fare.

“We always try to create new reasons for people to come down to Harbor Days,” said Bamberger, the club’s president. “We don’t want to make too many big changes, just small tweaks here and there.”

Among those tweaks are a big screen under the tent at Shipyard Park that will show “Oz the Great and Powerful” on Saturday night.

Concerts are also getting a boost with the Rochester band, The Relics, on Friday night and the Pearly Baker Acoustic Group on Saturday night.

With sponsors funding the movie and the concert night, Bamberger said, “We can get some acts that will have broader draw."

Another change Bamberger noted is that people can park at the bowling alley on Route 6 and take free shuttles to Shipyard Park, instead of driving in circles to find places to park.

“We’re trying to make it really easy for people to enjoy harbor days,” he said.
