Healing little Hearts 5K runs for second year

Oct 13, 2014

More than 200 people got their hearts pumping on Monday morning for the second annual Healing little Hearts Fun Run and 5K at Center School.

The nonprofit organization was founded by the Weglowski family after their son, Brady, was born with a heart defect. The organization has since raised more than $800,000 to promote research for kids born with heart defects at Boston Children's Hospital.

Kathleen LeClair, a friend of Marc and Kelly Weglowski, spearheaded the road race both years and said the second year was much easier.

"I'm less freaked out than I was last year!" said LeClair.

After expenses, the organization raised about $7,000 last year for the cause, and she hoped to see at least that much after this year's run. A number of last year's participants came out to show their support again on Monday.

Monica Donnelly of Lakeville returned to the race for the second year. She has been a supporter of Healing little Hearts for a while and her daughter, Kallan, 4, was born with the same heart defect as Brady.

This year 46 of their friends, family and coworkers came out to run with Monica and Kallan.

"I'm so touched," said Monica.

Kids were up first with a Fun Run around Center School followed by the 5K.

Before the race, Kelly thanked all the people and businesses that supported the race.

"It means the world to me," she said.
