Homes dressed up for Marion's Holiday House Tour
Five homeowners in Marion opened their doors to share Christmas decorations with the public as part of the Sippican Woman’s Club annual Holiday House Tour.
Now in its 27th year, the tour took place on Saturday. Area designers, florists and interior decorators donated time and talent to dress up the houses.
Old Rochester Regional High School students, who are members of the National Honor Society, helped guide visitors through the homes. The tour itself is a fundraiser for the club’s annual scholarship program.
At Tabor Academy, Head of School John Quirk’s residence was open to the public. In an arrangement with the school, part of the home is used to entertain prospective students and their families. Upstairs, rooms are available for visitors traveling from far away.
“And downstairs there’s a game room for some good old-fashioned school sanctioned fun,” said Nicolas Iacovelli, a student volunteer from ORR.
Steve Gonsalves of Eden Florist & Garden Shop decorated the Quirk’s home Other stops included a home owned by the Menzel family. Their house on Moorings Road was built in the early 1900s. Originally designed to house workers of the Converse Estate, it eventually ended up in the hands of the Carrington family.
Inside the home, John Menzel took care of the Christmas tree decorations while Diane Kelley, with assistance from Bunny Mogilnicki of Bunny’s Boutiques, Anthi Frangiadis Associates and Cecily Balboni of Serendipity by the Sea, decorated the home.
Designed and built in 2011, the home of Lars and Ruth Olson boasts ocean views of Hammet’s Cove. As one of the more modern homes on the tour it has energy efficient touches, including insulated concrete and radiant heat.
For Bill and Tinker Saltonstall, their home combines a historical past with a look toward the future. After moving into the 120-year-old home on Front Street, the Saltonstalls installed solar panels for electricity and hot water.
Tinker noted this was the first time the home was on the tour: “The Woman’s Club had been asking us for to do this for awhile, and this was the year we said ‘yes.’”
