Jennel Garcia voted out on 'X Factor'
It’s been a long ride for Rochester resident Jennel Garcia, but on Thursday night the 18-year-old was sent home on FOX’s talent TV show “The X Factor.”
Garcia’s departure came after she received the least amount of votes from both the audience and the judges in a sing-off against another contestant.
After she was voted off, an emotional Garcia expressed her gratitude for her time on the show.
On the previous night, judge L.A. Reid had praised Garcia’s cover of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary.”
“You started this thing with a bang,” Reid said.
Good reviews followed by negative ones had become normal for Garcia during the competition.
Her cover of Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock and Roll” earned her mixed reviews from the judges.
Reid dubbed her performance a “Joan Jett parody,” while fellow judge Britney Spears called it, “hot, hot, hot.”
Her performance of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” also garnered her criticism from the judges, while her cover of “Home Sweet Home” received universal praise from the judges.
Before her departure, Garcia discussed how much she has matured on the show.
“It’s really tough, but I’m having the time of my life,” she said.
Garcia was the second of two Rochester residents to be voted off of the show, following Jillian Jensen in October.
The final 10 contestants will move on in the competition and the winner will receive a $5 million recording contract.
