A Rochester man led police on a wild chase on the night of Thursday, Sept. 22 and was arrested and charged on multiple counts.

Officers Sean Crook and Bryan Burger were called to 46 Jason's Lane at approximately 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a man consuming a large amount of an unknown substance.

The officers encountered Robert Ray, 20, who became combative and lead them on a foot chase. He got into a large SUV parked in the driveway and as he attempted to drive away, Ray struck Burger, injuring him.

During the attempt to flee, Ray also hit several trees, entered Jason's Lane, left the roadway and crashed into several other objects before the SUV stopped, according to police.

As Officer Crook approached Ray, he got out of the SUV and struggled with the officer. According to the police report, Crook eventually got control of Ray and took him into custody. Both Officer Burger and Ray were taken by ambulance to Tobey Hospital in Wareham. They were later released.

Ray has been charged with multiple criminal and civil infractions, including assault and battery on police, operating under the influence of drugs with injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (a motor vehicle). Ray was held without bail and was arraigned in Wareham District Court on Friday.
