Marion Police helped stop a man who was arrested for driving the wrong way on I-195 while drunk by deploying a device that deflated his tires.

On Saturday, State Police arrested 23-year-old Jowaun Gamble of Wareham and charged him with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for a police officer amongst other charges.

Just before 2 a.m., police reported that Gamble was speeding east on the westbound lane of I-195 in a 2015 Nissan Altima.

Attempts by Trooper Christopher Meleo to pull over Gamble in Fairhaven were ignored while State Police from the Dartmouth and Bourne Barracks, along with officers from local police departments, monitored traffic to prevent accidents.

In the area of exit 20, Marion Police Officer Jeffrey Habicht helped set up a device that deflated all four tires on Gamble’s car.

Despite that setback Gamble continued driving a short time before he lost control of the car and stopped in the median near exit 21 in Wareham.

Gamble was booked at the State Police barracks in Dartmouth and taken to the Bristol County House of Correction where he will be held pending his arraignment at New Bedford District Court on Monday.

Gamble has also been charged with resisting arrest, driving the wrong way on a state highway and speeding.
