Marion warns against scam emails impersonating Planning Board
MARION — Scammers have been sending emails impersonating the Marion Planning Board, and the town warns residents to be cautious and report any fraudulent activities.
These emails may use town letterhead, employee names, email signatures, and official-looking documents to appear legitimate and solicit payments from applicants. Recipients may be asked to submit payments through wire transfers or other suspicious methods to process applications or pay associated fees.
These emails are fraudulent — Marion will never ask people to wire money as a form of payment. Anyone receiving a fraudulent email should not provide personal or financial information or send money in response to suspicious payment requests.
Anyone who received an unexpected email or invoice claiming to be from the Planning Board should verify the request by contacting the appropriate town department or visiting the Town House.
Even if a message appears to be from a town employee, recipients should check the sender’s email address and be cautious of unfamiliar or suspicious addresses.
Do not click suspicious links included in such emails, or open unexpected attachments.
Contact the Police Department at 508-748-1212 to report any incidents.
