Mattapoisett resident Nick Wright crossed the first step in approval of an approximately one-acre oyster farm in Shaw’s Cove at the Selectmen’s meeting on Tuesday.

Selectmen said they didn’t see any problem with the location, but there are more hurdles to cross for the commercial fisherman before he can establish the farm, including approval from the Department of Marine Fisheries, the shellfish warden and the harbormaster. The area must be surveyed to make sure it will not encroach on an existing shellfish bed.

Selectmen continued the discussion until their Feb. 14 meeting.
