Mattapoisett native Jillian Zucco was crowned Miss Massachusetts 2017 in the 78th Annual Miss Massachusetts Scholarship Pageant on Saturday.

Zucco competed against 20 other women from across Massachusetts for the Miss Massachusetts title. The pageant was held on Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1 in Worcester. Her win brought her a $12,000 scholarship, as well as an invitation to the Miss America pageant, which will be held on September 10 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Zucco also won a preliminary award in the Talent (Group A) division. Additionally, she was named the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals "Miracle Maker" during the competition.

The award is given to the contestant who has raised the most money for the Children's Miracle Network, which is the official Miss Massachusetts platform. Zucco has raised $25,000 for the Children's Miracle Network. She won "Miracle Maker" for the second consecutive time, having won the same award at the 2016 competition.

Zucco campaigned on the platform "Choose a Cause, Make a Difference," in which she advocates for the importance of volunteering to make a difference.

In addition to her new Miss Massachusetts title, Zucco currently reigns as Miss Bristol County. She was the runner-up in 2016's Miss Massachusetts competition.

A 2011 graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School, Zucco graduated from UMass Dartmouth's nursing program. She is currently a nurse at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.

Zucco competed against a familiar face in the Miss Massachusetts competition -- Rochester resident and fellow Old Rochester Regional High School graduate Sara Achorn, who currently holds the title of Miss Plymouth County. Achorn won her own award on Saturday night -- she was awarded a $200 scholarship as the competition's Most Talented Finalist.
