Mattapoisett Police arrest two men on narcotics charges

A local man and a New Bedford man were arrested last Friday on multiple drug charges following a police investigation.

Joshua Costa, 38, of 44 Prospect Road, Mattapoisett and Sean Rattigan, 24, of 346 Cedar St., New Bedford, were arrested Aug. 10 by Mattapoisett police detectives as result of a narcotics investigation.

While conducting surveillance, Mattapoisett Police report: Rattigan and Costa were observed meeting in front of an apartment.  As officers approached they saw Costa exchanging money with Rattigan. Costa was found to be in possession of heroin, which was purchased from Rattigan. Rattigan was found to be in possession of money and Percocet pills.

Police said a subsequent search of Rattigan’s apartment produced additional heroin, large quantities of pills, drug paraphernalia and a scale.

Costa was charged with possession of a Class A substance (heroin),  and Rattigan was charged with distribution of a Class A substance, possession with the intent to distribute a Class B substance, and possession with the intent to distribute a Class E substance.  Rattigan also had outstanding warrants for his arrest, police said.

Rattigan and Costa were transported to Wareham 4th District Court for arraignment.
