Mattapoisett Selectmen interview for Town Counsel
Mattapoisett Selectmen conducted interviews for Town Counsel on Tuesday. Town Administrator Mike Gagne said the process is a chance to re-evaluate Mattapoisett’s needs based on where legal services have been concentrated in the past several years.
“It’s also about shopping for price,” said Gagne.
The Selectmen received eight or nine applications and interviewed applicants, including Kopelman and Paige, the Boston-based law firm that currently serves as Town Counsel.
“It keeps everybody on their toes,” said Gagne of the process.
He added that the town is unlikely to add a full-time, in-house position, which would be more costly to the town.
“It’s not a critical component to have in house,” said Gagne.
The Selectmen will discuss the issue further at their next meeting on February 12.
