Mattaposiett Lion’s Club free festival features fall-tastic fun
MATTAPOISETT — Even after Halloween, the spooky spirit of the season stuck around a little longer this year at the Mattapoisett Lion’s Club Fall Free Family Festival.
Families flocked to Shipyard Park on Saturday, Nov. 1 for hay rides, pumpkin bowling, face painting, pumpkin painting, fire truck fun and snacks — all free of charge.
Kids of all ages romped around in costumes, dressed as cows, “KPop Demon Hunters” characters and more.
“I wanted this event just because people don’t always have a lot of money and it shouldn’t matter. They should be able to go out and have just a really nice fall afternoon with the family,” said Kimberly Ray, a member of the Mattapoisett Lion’s Club who organized the event.
“This is a service project for us, so we’re just giving back to the community,” she adds.
Mattaposiett resident Amy Dawicki and her two daughters played games and enjoyed the festival, while her husband manned one of the tractors for the hay ride.
“It’s a beautiful day, you get to take a hay ride through the center of town,” said Dawicki.
Four-year-old Julie Dawicki said her favorite part of the day was “the hay ride!”
Norah Dawicki, 6, said “My favorite was getting my face painted and my second favorite was going with my dad on the truck.
Ray emphasized that she enjoys this event in particular because everyone in the community has access to it.
“I would just like to thank everyone who came out today, and all the kids and their costumes. Everyone is just enjoying the day — it makes me happy every year,” said Ray.
