Mayflower Bank acquired by Rockland Trust, 'few changes' for Rochester branch

May 21, 2013

Rockland Trust announced its acquisition of Plymouth County's Mayflower Bank earlier this week. But Rockland Trust Senior Vice President Ralph Valente said local customers aren’t likely to see any changes until the end of the year.

Rockland Trust, part of Independent Bank Corporation, will takeover Mayflower’s eight locations, including one located at Plumb Corner in Rochester.

Valente said that representatives from Rockland Trust have met with all Mayflower employees. While Valente couldn’t answer definitively that staffing would remain the same, he said, “I don’t anticipate having changes for any of the people serving the community of Rochester. It’s an important community to Mayflower, so it’s an important community to us.”

After the banks get through the regulatory approvals, Valente said the transition will be smooth and will take place over a weekend.

Valente said Mayflower customers can expect access to more services and products once the changeover is complete.

“Businesses can get larger loans, and we have a more diverse array of products from the cash management front,” explained Valente.

There will also be benefits for individuals, including the ability to deposit checks with a Smartphone and “smart ATMs” that allow customers to deposit stacks of cash or checks at one time.

“We have a pretty long track record of conveniences and fair and transparent pricing,” said Valente.
