Musicfest directors thank supporters, musicians

Jul 7, 2014

To the Editor:

It is with great pride and pleasure that we welcome you to the 2014 Buzzards Bay Musicfest. In each of our previous 17 years, we presented a series of four great concerts performed by some of the most energetic and talented musicians in the world. We are thrilled to announce the return of Antony Walker as our guest conductor for this season. His impressive energy and musicianship, and the immediate rapport that formed between he and the players provided memorable performances last year.

This season, we have added a jazz performance as our fifth concert.  Sean Jones, acclaimed trumpeter who tours both nationally and internationally, and his band will perform on Friday evening at 8 p.m.

In August, we lost a critical member of the Musicfest community and our founding Artistic Director, Russell Patterson. We were blessed by his passion, dedication, leadership, immense talent, and generosity. Without his support, our magical performances of music would not have been possible. He leaves a legacy of a vibrant and successful music institution. Our 18th season is dedicated to his memory.

As you can imagine, a great deal of work, both musically and behind the scenes, goes into producing a series of concerts infused with creative insight and profound musicality. We are grateful for and thank our community of donors, supporters, musicians, host families, volunteers, and our partner, Tabor Academy. Together they ensure that truly wonderful music is performed on the South Coast in the summer. On behalf of the Board of Directors we invite you to enjoy the power of music.
