New covid cases rise in all three towns for third week straight

As Tri-Town covid cases continue to rise, vaccination rates in Mattapoisett and Rochester have slightly picked up.

Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester each saw an increase in new covid cases for the third week straight, according to state data.

Marion saw six new covid cases in the week leading up to Aug. 5, up from five the week prior. Mattapoisett saw seven new cases, up from three the week before. Rochester recorded 12 new cases in the week leading up to Aug. 5, after recording nine the week before.

The increase in cases comes as the country has seen a rise in the more contagious delta variant of the virus.

Covid vaccination rates have slightly increased in Mattapoisett and Rochester, while remaining the same in Marion.

Rochester saw an increase of 1% in both its partially- and fully-vaccinated population, rising to 62% and 57%, respectively.

Mattapoisett also saw a 1% increase in full- and partially-vaccinated residents. There are now 83% of Mattapoisett residents with at least one dose of a covid vaccine and 76% of residents who are fully vaccinated.

Marion’s single-dose rate has remained at 83% for two weeks, and its full-vaccination rate has been at 75% for four straight weeks.
