New stop sign to be added at corner of Hammond and Mechanic streets
A new stop sign will soon be added to the corner of Hammond Street and Mechanic Street, turning the intersection into a four-way stop.
While police officer Justin King couldn’t attend the Selectmen meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the three-way stop currently at the intersection, it didn’t take much discussion to convince the board that adding a fourth sign was a great idea.
Melody Pacheco, assistant to the town administrator, said she spoke with King earlier in the week.
“This has been a three-way stop for quite some time, whatever the reason might be,” said Pacheco.
King proposed the additional sign because many of the intersections in the area have four-way stops. The new sign will keep everything in that area uniform, which in turn will promote safety.
“It should have always been a four-way stop at that intersection, especially on Sunday morning after mass,” said Selectmen Jordan Collyer.
The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the new stop sign.
