ORR alums face off against student basketball teams

Jun 12, 2015

The Old Rochester Regional Hall of Fame held its first student versus alumni basketball games on Thursday night.

Players from the 1960s to the 2000s came out to see if they still had the competitive edge. Some of them had to play with new rules, since a few things have changed since the "old days."

The ladies' game started off the evening with a nail biter. The fourth quarter started with the alumni up by seven. They slowed throughout the last minutes of the game but were defeated narrowly, 44-41.

"I'm happy we had the lead at some point!" said Dena Xifaras, a player from the 1990s.

A vigorous game with the ORR boys followed. Again the current team won with a 57-52 finish in a consistently close game.

"State champions were just too much," said Xifaras.

All in all it was an eventful and fun night with all proceeds from the event going to the ORR Hall of Fame. The group has its annual banquet on Saturday followed by a golf tournament on Sunday.
