ORR student attends inauguration

Jan 20, 2017

Donald Trump is officially President of the United States and Old Rochester Regional student Camryn Morais, from East Freetown, was there to watch the transition of power.

Morais, who won Miss New England Teen in November, attended the inauguration with her mother after receiving two tickets from Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

“I told her about my platform and the stuff I did around the state, and she gave me tickets for me and my mom,” Morais said.

Her platform is a program called Mirror Babble, which encourages self acceptance and confidence in young girls.

Morais found out only a week beforehand that she would be going, so it came as a surprise to her and her mom, but said they would both do it again in a heartbeat.

"[My mom] said it was an experience she loved and I loved it too," Morais said. "We talked about next time bringing our whole family."

The experience was a special one for Morais, and different than what she had expected. Morais and her mom were able to get up close and she said waiting in the crowd with all the other people was "so much fun."

"It was surprising to feel as warm and accepted in the crowd," she said.

The feeling in the crowd was an optimistic one during the inaugural address Morais said.

"I can't even describe it," she said. "Everyone was so full of hope."

Morais was also in D.C. early enough to catch some of the inaugural concert the night before.

"It was crazy," she said. "Everyone was singing together and it was hopeful and inspiring."
