Pilgrim Sands Trail Riders to host two competitions
The Pilgrim Sands Trail Riders will kick up the dust again with two dates this year.
The group, part of the New England Trail Riding Association, has organized amateur dirt bike competitions at the Mattapoisett landfill for several years.
Selectmen approved events on May 31 and Sept. 27 at their Tuesday night meeting.
Organizers Bruce Rocha and Jodie Bauer expect 80 to 100 entries for the May event. The September event will be a regional one with people from across New England and New York. Rocha expects 200 to 250 riders at that competition, the largest number they have hosted yet.
Around 20 campers in travel trailers and mobile homes are also expected to camp out the day before the September trail ride.
“We don’t see it interfering with any of the dump’s activities on the Saturday,” said Rocha.
He and Bauer still need to meet with the Board of Health for approval on that account.
Selectmen had positive feedback for Pilgrim Sands.
“We haven’t heard any complaints which is a good thing,” said Tyler Macallister.
