Pre-Thanksgiving covid data shows Rochester in yellow

Nov 30, 2020

Though Thanksgiving travel may increase covid cases in the Tri-Town, state data released on Nov. 27 showed that case counts went down in Marion and Mattapoisett, but increased in Rochester.

In Rochester, cases jumped from 10 to 16 last week, and the town shifted from a gray designation to yellow. Learn more about how state color coding works here

In Marion, cases decreased from 50 to 32 in the week leading up to Thanksgiving, but the town still holds the highest number of cases.

Cases dropped slightly in Mattapoisett as well, going from 22 to 19 positive individuals.

Two new cases were reported in an Old Rochester Regional School District press release on Nov. 29, increasing the district’s total cases reported to 23 since its reopening in September.

Both of the district cases were found in personnel directly involved with the district’s Central Office.

One of the positive individuals has not been in the school building since Nov. 5, and the other since Nov. 20.

Contact tracing is in progress, and close contacts will be expected to quarantine and will be recommended for covid testing.

The district currently has 32 students and staff in quarantine, with four more in isolation.

All of the district’s schools continued to operate as normal on Nov. 30.

At Sippican Healthcare Center, where an outbreak began in early November, cases have remained in the dozens. The long-term healthcare facility has 52 ongoing cases, with the last positive case being recorded on Nov. 29.

Two covid-related deaths have occurred among the facility’s residents since the outbreak began.
