ROCHESTER _ A talk on the meaning of symbols found on colonial New England tombstones will be discussed after a brief membership meeting of the Rochester Historical Society at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the society museum, 355 County Road.

Jeff Stevens will present a program on “The Stories in Stone,’’ during which he will show and explain the symbols on the tombstones and how they evolved over time.

Following his presentation, Cathy Phinney will give some tips on how to clean older stones.
