Proposed cell phone tower to have driveway

In preparation for a proposed cell phone tower to be built on its land, Dennis Mahoney and Sons went before Mattapoisett’s Planning Board to get approval for a driveway to access the landlocked property.

At the board’s meeting on Monday, Jeffrey Youngquist of Outback Engineering in Middleborough presented plans on behalf of Dennis Mahoney and Sons for an unpaved driveway that would meet local zoning bylaws for frontage on the property, which is located near Jane Lane.

“I don’t represent the cell tower people at this point and time,” said Youngquist.

As there will not be a house on the property at this time, Youngquist requested variances on the road that would allow it to be a gravel driveway rather than making it a “real road.”

The board unanimously approved the plan, allowing it to be considered as a single lot with a gravel road.

As for the cell phone tower, Town Counsel Jonathan Silverstein has deemed that the proposal, a project of Industrial Tower and Wireless, should first go before the Zoning Board of Appeals for approval, rather than the Planning Board, as it is located outside the approved corridor for cellular towers.
