Residents go under the needle for a good cause
Many local residents are frequent blood donors, some even giving multiple gallons of their precious platelets and plasma for people in need. Southcoast Blood Bank recently released the latest top donors.
Among them were Daniel Lawrence of Rochester who reached two gallons, Robert Becher of Marion who donated three gallons, Mattapoisett’s Lisa Hill and Marion’s Viola Taylor who each gave four gallons, Jack Olsen in Mattapoisett who donated six gallons, and Darryl Gifford of Rochester who reached nine gallons.
Above the 10 gallon mark were Rochester’s Peter Mitchell and Thomas Gray, who gave 13 and 14 gallons, respectively.
SouthCoast Hospitals use approximately 1,300 pints of blood a month for patients. For more information on donating blood, visit the Southcoast Blood Bank at St. Luke’s Hospital, 101 Page Street, New Bedford.
