Rochester’s Country Fair readies for opening

Jul 31, 2012

With less than three weeks until its grand opening at its new location on Pine Street, the Rochester Country Fair is moving along right on schedule.

Dave Souza, a member of the fair’s planning committee, addressed the Selectmen on Monday, July 30, with an update on fair’s move from its original location at Plumb Corner Mall.

“We’re pretty close,” he said.

Souza said that the fairgrounds will be ready in time for the August 16 opening. He also thanked the town’s officials as well as the public for their support while organizing the move.

“I don’t know where to begin except to thank everyone,” Souza said. “Even the neighbors are excited about it. It’s been a great big project but a fun one.”

Police Chief Paul Magee said that the police will close off one lane of traffic on Pine Street to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely.

“We think that this should handle the issues,” Magee said.

Magee added that he will also be increasing the number of officers on staff for the fair.

“We want to make sure we have enough people,” he said. “We should have a good event.”

Selectmen Brad Morse commended the committee members on their efforts.

“The place is beautiful. You guys have really done a fabulous job,” Morse said.

Selectmen Chair Richard Nunes and Selectman Naida Parker agreed.

“Sounds like you’re there,” Nunes said.

“Thank you. You put in a lot of hours, a lot of work,” Parker said.

The fair will run until Sunday, August 19.
