Rochester finalizes Special Town Meeting articles

Apr 15, 2014

Rochester’s Special Town Meeting will be held Monday, May 19 at 6:45 p.m. in Rochester Memorial School. The meeting is scheduled 15 minutes before the Annual Town Meeting and features two items up for vote.

Selectmen finalized the articles at the board’s April 14 meeting. The items are basically “housekeeping” ones meant to keep town finances in order and ensure state law is followed.

Voters will be asked to fund unanticipated costs for fiscal year 2014 with money from various accounts or the general fund. The action allows the town to pay for unpredictable events. The exact amount will be determined one week before the meeting.

Town Administrator Rich LaCamera said that barring any weather problems the figure should remain about the same.

“Hopefully, there are no more snowstorms,” he said.

The second article addresses newly elected Board of Health member William Souza. As an installer of septic tanks Souza's work will have to be subject to an independent inspection. Voters will be asked to adopt state law that allows for Souza’s installations to be independently inspected.
